Elizabeth “Lizzi” Marriott was just starting to pursue her dream of
studying marine biology at the University of New Hampshire in
October 2012 when she went over to watch a movie with a friend, Kat
McDonough, and was never seen again. Kat lived with her boyfriend
who was over a decade older than her. Upon questioning, Seth
Mazzaglia admitted that Lizzi had died by accident and they had
disposed of her body… but at his trial, the truth came out. Lizzi
was “like a ray of sunshine” and cared deeply for animals and
others. In Lizzi’s memory, her family started the Lizzi
Marriott Intrepid Ocean Explorer Scholarship which is awarded each
year to one or more individuals who quote demonstrate the desire to
carry out Lizzi Marriott’s mission to “become a prominent figure in
protecting our oceans and to help others learn the wonders of our
