Health Update: Psychiatrist Admits, “We Don’t Know How the Medications Actually Work in the Brain”

Dr. Daniel Carlat, a psychiatrist and editor of the Carlat
Psychiatry Report, stated in an interview when asked about
psychiatric medicine, “We don’t know how the medications actually
work in the brain.”


Psychiatrists like Dr. Carlat still recommend these medications,
explaining to their patients that it will help them with a
chemical imbalance that they have in their brain. Dr. Carlat
admits that he doesn’t believe this theory himself, knowing the
evidence really isn’t there for us to explain this mechanism. Yet
this is the theory that he tells to his patients so that, quoting
Dr. Carlat, they will believe “that we as physicians have some
basic understanding of what we’re doing when we’re prescribing
drugs.”
