Dr. Mindy Pelz, author of Fast Like a Girl, explains why it’s so
important for women to fast (and feast!) according to their
bodies’ fluctuating needs over the course of their hormonal
cycle.
Unlike men, who only produce testosterone on a relatively
consistent basis, women cycle through estrogen, progesterone, and
testosterone, all of which get produced at different times during
their menstrual cycle. As a woman, knowing when each hormone is
being produced during your cycle and what type of support it
needs is crucial for fasting properly in harmony with the body’s
changing seasons.
“As women, we need to change everything to adapt to these
hormones,” Dr. Pelz explains. “Whether we are looking at a
monthly timeframe or you are going through menopause, these
hormones each need to be catered to in a much different fashion.”
