What does STL mean to Larry and what was growing up in St. Louis
like for him as a child? Being at Christian Brothers College HS
and winning the 1997 State Championship. We talk about grassroots
AAU for him and his team that won the AAU 17U National
Championship with the St. Louis Eagles. We then hit on the 97
McDonalds All-American Game where he dropped 21 points against
some of the big names we know today. 


What was his college recruitment like and why he chose to stay
home wit St. Louis U and what he remembers about beating UMass in
the 1998 NCAA Tournament? NBA Draft night and being picked #8 in
the draft, who was in that draft and what it was like once his
name was called. 


Playing with the Philadelphia 76ers and Allen Iverson, a story
about when A.I. gave him his Bentley. What the move to the Golden
State Warriors did for his career and being in the 2000 Slam Dunk
Competition. We talk about his defensive ability, why he liked to
lock down on defense, why defense is not the same today, and what
Michael Jordan taught him about playing defense. 


The injuries he occurred and how that hampered him from being the
NBA player he hoped to be, what it is like coming back after an
injury with the expectations to be where you were prior. We talk
being traded, the insight behind them that includes how living
arrangements are handled. A couple of his most memorable games,
what teams he really enjoyed playing for. 


We find out why he started the Larry Hughes Basketball Academy,
the mission behind it and his new podcast called “Bleav in
Wizards” with Matt Modderno.
