Next Steps:
- Read Psalm 103:13-18. Underline all the words or phrases used
to describe humanity’s life. Then circle the words or phrases
used to describe God’s love and compassion. Do you see a contrast
between these two? What do you think the Psalmist is trying to
communicate through this comparison?
- Pastor Kerry reminded us that God’s compassion is personal.
Often, we are tempted to view God as a distant, yet powerful
being. What do you think it means that God’s compassion is
personal? When you think of God, what images first come to mind?
A loving parent or a cosmic judge? Why do you think that is? Take
a few minutes and journal your response.
- For the month of November, we are challenging you to keep a
gratitude journal. This week, in addition to journaling things
that you are grateful for, we challenge you to practice one act
of kindness each day. This can be as simple as holding the door
for a stranger or as elaborate as cooking dinner for a friend in
need. Make sure you take time to reflect on how your act of
kindness impacted others and how you felt as a result as well.
Psalm 103:13-18
13 As a father shows compassion to his children,
so the Lord shows compassion to those who
fear him.
14 For he knows our frame;
he remembers that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are like grass;
he flourishes like a flower of the field;
16 for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
and its place knows it no more.
17 But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to
everlasting on those who fear him,
and his righteousness to children's
children,
18 to those who keep his covenant
and remember to do his commandments.
