William S. Burroughs: "The Limits of Control" and Its Influence on Deleuze

We explore the origins of Deleuze's concept of the Control
society by taking a deep dive into the priest of the Beat
Generation: William S. Burroughs. Taking cues from texts such as
The Limits of Control, Nova Express, Naked Lunch, and his
lectures on viral communication, we articulate the fundamental
tension at the heart of control systems, how images can 'go
viral' in the age of social media, and explore Burroughs' own
accounts of communication and cut-up writing techniques in
pursuit of an understanding of how to short-circuit these
apparatuses today.
