podcast celebrating the Oak Brook Polo Club’s 100th Anniversary.


 Founded in 1922 by legendary businessman, Paul Butler, the
Oak Brook Polo Club is an American Polo treasure and one of the
oldest polo clubs in the United States. It was once the sport's
epicenter for elite professional polo and served as home to the
U.S. Open Polo Championship for twenty-four straight seasons and
other prestigious international and national polo
tournaments. 


In 2022, the Oak Brook Polo Club will be celebrating its 100th
anniversary and will be returning to its original and masterpiece
field, the Cecil Smith Field.


To honor this historic occasion, the Oak Brook Polo Club has
invited Club friends and family to share stories and their most
fondest memories of visiting and playing at Oak Brook. Join as we
take listeners down memory lane with some of the sport’s
household names while they share their experiences at Oak Brook
and the impact the Club and its founder’s have played on their
lives.  Welcome to this Outside The Boards special podcast
edition, with your host Danny O’Leary.

My first guest on this podcast is the legendary Hawaii polo
great, Ronnie Tongg. Ronnie’s affiliation with Oak Brook Polo
Club began back in 1960 as teenager when he visited the Club to
watch the U.S. Open Polo Championship. At that time he came with
his father who helped build a couple of polo club’s in Hawaii who
would later win the Open in 1962 and would ultimately become the
owner of the Santa Barbara Polo Club. Ronnie would visit Oak
Brook numerous times over the course of two decades as a groomer,
player and spectator. He is a dear friend to the Club and the
Butler Family and we are thrilled to have him on this special
podcast.

The Oak Brook Polo Club is thrilled to announce the creation of
the Friends of Oak Brook Polo. The Club’s non-for-profit arm
created with the mission of supporting quality recreational and
competitive polo in Oak Brook through the rejuvenation and
