They were a way to remember your previous selections. And have
you ever been to a site and had to change what country you were
in, or what language you wanted, or what page you wanted to
default load to?


Well, those were brought to you by your wonderful little friend,
the cookie.


Basically the website would acknowledge your visit and selection
– write a bit of code and save it to your computer – and then
read it next time you came back to make sure things were just as
you left them.
