Mentors & role models can change everything

Leila Smith is CEO of the Aurora Foundation, who has seen the
absolute power of mentoring and role modelling first hand.


She describes some key examples in this episode, noting how it
can change entire lives and career trajectories.


And she's experienced such change first hand, having taken part
in an International Study Tour with Aurora, in which Indigenous
university students are awarded scholarships to attend 6 of the
10 best global universities, including Oxford, Cambridge and
Stanford.


She met Indigenous scholars who reshaped everything she had been
socialised to know about education. “When you see Aboriginal
people before you who have walked that path, it’s so powerful”,
she says, adding “you got to be extremely proud and celebrate who
you were as an Aboriginal person but also be academic.”
