There is so much to learn from Turia Pitt: resilience, strength,
courage and confidence. But also how she's approached happiness
and continues to choose and constantly pursue it, and why
happiness can be a powerful leadership trait.

Welcome to Season 4 of The Leadership Lessons! And a huge
introduction to our new host, Shirley Chowdhary, who takes over
from Kate Mills' excellent work over our first three seasons.

This week, we speak with Turia, a talented athlete and former
mining engineer with a life-altering story that most Australians
would be familiar with.

Turia was caught in a raging grassfire during a 100km
ultra-marathon in 2011. She suffered full thickness burns to the
majority of her body and underwent more than 200 medical
procedures. She would then go on to spend more than two years in
hospital fighting to recover.

Turia harnessed her harrowing experience to become a spokesperson
for self-love, contentment, courage, confidence and resilience.
She describes herself on her website as somebody who "makes cool
stuff that helps people get happier."

“I believe that we’ve all got the inner resources to be able to
cope with whatever life throws our way,” she says, adding that “a
lot of people just never get tested so they might not know that
about themselves yet," she tells Shirley.
