Jim Belcher - Surviving the USS Indianapolis and Healing - July 30,
1945, a torpedo from Japanese submarine I-58 sunk the USS
Indianapolis. The ship sank in minutes taking a quarter of her crew
with her. Among the men that survived, the attack was Jim Belcher.
Just over a month later, the war was over, I-59 surrendered and Jim
was reassigned to duty in Japan. For the of this episode head

those that were not born yet. In Japan, Jim met, fell in love with
and married a young Japanese girl named Toyoko. This love story
resulted in a long marriage and a son named Jim Jr. In 2001 Jim Sr
passed away, but Jim Jr was only beginning his journey as part of
the Indy's legacy. Of the 316 that survived, less than 10 are left.
Jim looks after the men, their legacy and continues to help keep
