What’s going on in the border between Poland and Belarus? Well,
long story short, it’s a Geopolitical crisis in which people in
need are caught in the middle. Since August, thousands of
migrants, most of them fleeing from the wars in Syria, Yemen and
the dire situation in Iraq have amassed in Belarus’s border with
Poland, attempting to cross to the European Union.

Leaders in Brussels saw this as a power move by Belarus’s
president Alexander Lukashenko in response to the sanctions the
European Union has imposed in the country following his violent
crackdown on dissent and opposition politicians who challenged
his victory in the presidential elections last year.

So, fast-forward to now, November 2021. Hundreds of migrants keep
arriving to the border and the situation is increasingly tense.
To make matters worse, journalists are facing increasing
challenges in documenting what’s going on. And this is what we
are going to talk Today, in short. My name is Javier Luque and
with me, IPI’s Europe Advocacy Officer, Jamie Wiseman.
