serial killer and rapist who committed crimes in the Toronto area
in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was convicted of the
kidnappings, rapes, and murders of several young women, including
his wife Karla Homolka's younger sister Tammy Homolka. Bernardo
also committed a series of sexual assaults known as the
"Scarborough Rapist" attacks prior to the murder of Homolka and the
other girls. He was arrested in 1993 and sentenced to life in
prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years.
