Today’s SoapBox Moment - Merely Ship It

Episode of Seth Godin's Akimbo Podcast

Merely shipping “Does not mean to ship junk. It does not
mean ship things that you know to be inferior. It means ship
it. Ship it without discussion or drama or anxiety. Because
the discussion, and the drama, and the anxiety do not
increase the quality . . ." - Godin

"Saturday Night Live doesn’t come out because it’s
perfect; it comes out because it’s 11:30.” - Godin

“My next post doesn’t come out because it’s perfect; it
comes out because it’s tomorrow.” - Godin

“You don’t need to be afraid to be judged . . . Our
opportunity, when we make something, is to make something
better. But you can’t make something better if you don’t ship
the work.” - Godin

2 Truths & 1 Lie

Educational Duct Tape Question: How can I build
interactivity into my content?

“How do you make an interactive lesson?” - making
interactivity a focus

Classroom setup

Questions & Discussion

“Whoever is doing the most talking is doing the most
learning.”

Move small groups into Zoom or Google Meet breakout rooms
and have them respond (or record takeaways) in a
collaborative space like Google Docs, Padlet, Jamboard, etc.

“What needs to be happening is connectivity, connection
with my kids, . . . and interactivity.” - Dee

Flipgrid

Modeling the risk-taking as a teacher, seeking feedback

Pear Deck - student-paced is available, embed things like
Jamboards or Flipgrid Topics

Seize opportunities for students to share ideas and tips
with YOU . . . “Power of Reciprocity”

Solve in Time - gamified version of design thinking

Cards - SOS (ask 3 before me), (1) Problem, (2)
Research, (3) Understand, (4) Solve, (5) sharing cards
(different cards for different groups)

Technology could be included in a variety of ways

Could transition into a robust PBL activity

Jake's Additional Interactivity Thoughts:

Pear Deck--multiple choice, numbers, text, drawing,
draggable, website

Nearpod--similar options, multiple-choice autograde, new
EdPuzzle-like video feature, drag-and-drop fill-in-the-blank
activities, matching pairs activities (match a picture to
text), memory tests, the Time to Climb game. An added bonus
is that teachers can now choose to allow students to respond
to open-ended questions using audio!

ClassFlow--all kinds of question types, plus Categorise,
Crossword, Flashcards, Labelled Diagram, Matching, Memory
Game, Sequencing, Timeline, Venn Diagram, and Word search +
gradebook and LMS like features. It’s only detriment,
possibly, is that it does so much!

Formative--multiple choice, multiple selection, true or
false, short answer, essay, and Show Your Work (students can
draw, type, or even upload an image) + more in the paid
version…. Great data

Classkick - Students can respond using drawings,
highlights, text, images (even from their webcam!) or audio
(yup! They can record their voice!).

Seesaw--This student work could be a photo, a drawing, an
annotated photo (within the drawing tool), a video, a note,
audio (within the photo, drawing, or note tool), a link, or
an uploaded file.
