A panel on the coordinated hate campaign on Meghan Markle

Hello Squaddies!! Michelle and Tina are here with you again! We
have a special podcast for you all! This panel on the coordinated
hate campaign on Meghan Markle, with Christopher Bouzy, the CEO
of Bot Sentinel https://botsentinel.com/ (Shout out to
a black man starting a tech startup!), Stephanie Guerilus, a
Journalist currently at The Grio, and Professor Goldburn Maynard,
a Business law and ethics professor was so refreshing and
illuminating. So who is behind this hate campaign, what is their
end goal, how can we use the information moving forward, what
role big tech social media companies play in this, why
journalists amplify the hate against Meghan Markle?


Most importantly, did this hate originate on social media, or did
it develop with mainstream media? Wow-what a spirited
conversation we had! As you all know, Tina is emotional, so you
guys got that from her, and Michelle brought her well-thought-out
discussion and questions to the panel! We had so much fun on this
panel; we could have gone 13 hours, but alas, you only get 2

Questions asked:
Can someone make that link.. set the context of mainstream
media and social media and how they feed off of each other If
journalists are aware of the smear campaign and can't speak up, why
are they participating in it? What course of legal action is
available to people who have been harmed or negatively impacted by
social media? Existing or in development How does a hateful thought
end up as money in someone's pocket? People need to understand that
the money trail Do victims and perpetrators fit any stereotypical
profile? How does trolling abuse of famous ppl differ from
cyberbullying of regular civilians in terms of rights to privacy
and how do those differences affect the ability to combat the
problem  How does the status of social media companies as
“online public square” insulate them from liability? Would it take
federal legislation to make platforms the same as news
organizations for victims to have valid claim file suits? Do
platforms have exposure due to the participatory nature of pushing
certain accounts and negative hashtags to users?  What
criteria changes for terminating abusive accounts would Chris
recommend sites implement?  If you were in charge of a social
media site what changes would you make to capture more of the
people skirting detection and consequences? What else we can do?
