The Anniversary Brothers: Game of Thrones 10th Anniversary

Lords Aaron and Joshua of House Sarnecky are here for the
April entry of their 2021 TV anniversary celebrations,
Game of Thrones.


Game of Thrones ran on HBO from April
17, 2011 to May 19, 2019, for a total of eight seasons and 73
episodes. Created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, it is an
adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novel series
A Song of Ice and Fire. In the series a
multitude of characters vie for control on the continent of
Westeros. Most factions in Game of
Thrones are commanded by noble houses, chief
among them the Starks of the North, the Lannisters of the South,
and the exiled Targaryens who used to rule the Seven Kingdoms.
Meanwhile, in the uppermost region of Westeros, humanoid Ice
creatures called White Walkers build their army, enslaving the
dead to their will.


During its run Game of Thrones
became the most popular show in the world and garnered
160 Emmy nominations and 59 wins, including four Outstanding
Supporting Actor wins for Peter Dinklage (X-Men:
Days of Future Past) for his portrayal of Tyrion
Lannister and Outstanding Drama Series wins for Seasons 5 through
8. The latter fact comes in spite of the extremely divisive final
season.


In the series premiere, “Winter Is Coming,” King Robert
Baratheon (Mark Addy, The Full
Monty) asks his friend Lord Eddard “Ned” Stark
(Sean Bean, Snowpiercer) to
become Hand of the King, the second most powerful person in
Westeros. Complicating matters for an already reluctant Ned is a
conspiracy involving the murder of the previous Hand. Over on the
continent of Essos, Princess Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia
Clarke, Last Christmas),
daughter of Westeros’ overthrown “Mad King,” marries warlord Khal
Drogo (Jason Mamoa, Zack Snyder’s Justice
League) in hopes that his warriors will help her
family reclaim the Iron Throne.

Coming” before going into their feelings on the series as a
whole. The brothers go into their favorite parts of the show, its
low points and controversies, and whether or not they’re
interested in the Game of Thrones
spinoffs in the works.
