This week on Privacy Please, we discuss the concept of feeling
"normal" in the digital realm. Despite the increasing presence of
surveillance and data collection, users in the United States seem
unfazed and have developed a sense of acceptance within digital
infrastructures. Feeling "normal" online provides a sense of
comfort, connection, and social inclusion, even though it may not
evoke strong emotions. This desire for normalcy explains why
users identify with digital platforms, despite being aware of the
potential harm associated with them.
