In this episode of DreamMachine, Patricia and Arun discuss about
the last 2D animated film to be released by DreamWorks,: the 2003
movie Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas. It focuses on Sinbad the
Sailor and his crew attempting to steal The Book of Peace, but is
shocked when he learned that it's been protected by his best
friend, the Prince of Syracuse. When Sinbad was rescued by the
Goddess of Discord named Eris when he was drawn underwater, she
asks him to steal the book in return. Refusing to steal it, Eris
disguises himself as Sinbad and steals the book. Sinbad is
sentenced to death, but the Prince decides to take his place
until he returns with the book and even sends his fiancee Marina
to help him. Will Sinbad and his crew retrieve the book in time?
What adventures await the journey to locate Eris?  When the
movie premiered in theaters, it was a modest success making $80
million dollars on a $60 million dollar budget and had received
mixed to negative reviews from critics. The movie was the first
to be processed with a Linux operating system and using 3D
backgrounds with 2D characters. How well does it hold up today?
Was there a reason that Sinbad was the last 2D animated
DreamWorks film? Listen and find out.
