In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about the 2021
Pixar animated film Luca featuring the directing debut of Enrico
Casarosa who had worked on the Pixar short La Luna. The story is
about a group of sea monsters named Luca and Alberto journeying
into a small Italian town called Portorosso to get themselves a
Vespa to travel where they wish to get their freedom. Luca is
trying to get freedom from his overprotective parents while Alberto
lives the way he wants due to his father letting him live his own
life. The only way they can get a Vespa is if they win the
Portorosso Cup Race involving with swimming, eating pasta, and
biking. They team up with a girl named Giulia and together they
train to win the Cup as well as Luca learning about life in the
surface. Luca was released on Disney+ due to COVID-19
on June 18, 2021 with some critics and fans saving positive reviews
on its more laidback, atmospheric, and simple approach while others
feel that Pixar is losing their touch on telling compelling stories
with deep morals, especially after being released after the
critically acclaimed film Soul. What do Arun and Patricia think of
the film? Listen and find out.
