PixMix Episode 30: Lightyear

In this episode of PixMix, Arun and Patricia discuss about the 2022
Pixar film Lightyear, a spinoff film from the Toy Story franchise
that focuses on the origins on Buzz Lightyear. Buzz and his
commanding officer Alisha Hawthorne are exploring a planet to find
life, but danger lurks with a monster plant is threatening the
lives of the Space Rangers and sinking their ship, Buzz tries to
escape by himself ending up being marooned with no escape. Feeling
guilty, Buzz volunteers to test traveling into hyperspace to find a
way to leave the planet. However, minutes in hyperspace took years
and Buzz tries over and over until decades passed with no luck.
Buzz's recent test has him meeting up with Izzy Hawthorne, Alisha's
granddaughter and her two teammates Mo Morrison and Darby Steel.
They're trying to attack the Evil Emperor Zurg's ship and return to
their colony. Buzz accompanies them and learns to work together as
a team. When the film premiered in theaters, it had mixed opinions
and became one of the lowest grossing Pixar films on its opening
weekend. Pixar and Disney had hoped that this would be its big
theatrical comeback after two years and three films released on
Disney+ due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but was crushed due to other
films such as Jurassic World: Dominion, Top Gun: Maverick, Sonic
the Hedgehog 2, and The Bad Guys being out around the same time. It
became even worse when The Minions: Rise of Gru was released a
