Journey to the Blue Sky Episode 7: Nimona

In this episode of Journey to the Blue Sky, Arun and Patricia
bend the rules a bit by discussing about the 2023 animated film
Nimona based on the 2015 graphic novel by N.D. Stevenson. A
commoner named Ballister Boldheart is being knighted in the
Institute for Elite Knights where ordinarily people who are
descendants of royalty from Queen Glorith would be chosen. Things
go horribly wrong when he is seeing killing the queen with a
laser coming out of his sword and is deemed a "murderer" and
"monster". A shapeshifter named Nimona wishes to be Ballister's
sidekick to cause mayhem, but instead he wishes to find out who
framed him so he can clear his name.


Originally produced by Blue Sky Studios, it was cancelled in 2021
when Disney bought the rights to the company and shut it down. It
was picked up by Annapurna Pictures and released as a Netflix
exclusive. When the film was released, it became a critical hit
for its animation, voice over performances, its LGBTQ
representation, and satirizing the formula of animated films.
