A popular question that all of us bloggers tend to explore at some
point is “How can I make money with this?” At a recent conference
people were asking this question. The go to answer that I see a lot
of people lean towards is making money with Google AdSense or
something other ad service. There is nothing wrong with this
answer. As a matter of fact, it is a perfectly fine answer. There
are other options that may actually be a better answer for most
bloggers.
Now before I get into the other options, I want to share with you a
formula. Just the other day, I released a tutorial how-to blog post
about how to create a Google AdSense ad and how to place it in your
WordPress sidebar. In that post, I also shared an article that
someone wrote about how to make money with AdSense.
The breakdown of the formula is this: You can theoretically make
$380 bucks a day with AdSense but to do that you will need around
40,000 page views per day.
If you are listening and are making that or more on just a few
hundred a day, then please contact me and let me know how because
that is awesome.
The point of this formula is that you need a lot of visitors on
your site to get enough folks clicking on those ads. It can take a
long time and a great deal of effort to get that many readers and
this is why I wanted to talk about another way.
A while back, I read an article about how to make a living with a
blog that has 100 readers a day. For the life of me, I can’t
remember where I read that, so I can’t credit the author. I don’t
recall all of the article but basically he said to consider other
methods besides ads.
So with that said, I thought that I would tell you a story.
Story about Fred.
Started DGC speaking
Stopped doing that and did other things.
Kept the blog going about custody though.
Now, he has a steady but low readership.
People reach out to him weekly, if not daily at times and ask him
questions.
He can only help so many people one on one.
He realized, hey I know a lot about this topic.
Now he is making a course.
So let’s go back to methods on making money with a blog:
Coaching
Books
Courses
Teaching / Speaking
Other Products
Affiliates
These are a few solid methods, so let me ask you.
What do you know?
What do people constantly ask your advice on?
What services can you offer that are related to your blog?
Can you envision other methods of making money with your topic
beyond ads?
