The Secrets of Estonia's Education Success - A Conversation with Mart Laidmets

Mart Laidmets is the General Director of Education and Youth
Board of the Republic of Estonia. Previously, from January 2019
until August 2021, he held the position of the Secretary General
of the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of
Estonia, responsible for directing the work of deputy secretary
generals and departments of the Ministry as well as co-ordinating
the work of state institutions and government bodies under the
Ministry’s sphere of administration. 


In addition to this, Mr Laidmets has been board member of
Foundation Innove, and has been working for the non-profit
association Universities Estonia and the University of Tartu. He
has been a Researcher at the Uppsala University, Advisor to the
Chancellery of the Riigikogu (parliament) and an Advisor to the
Prime Minister of Estonia. 


Mr Laidmets has a degree in history from the University of Tartu.
