New York-based novelist and poet , Rebecca McFadden, shares her
backstory of being born and raised a sharecropper's daughter, and
how she was able to overcome life's greatest challenges. Rebecca
is one of 15 children. Her parents were sharecroppers working in
South Carolina's cotton and tobacco fields, and she was raised to
do the same. Her vision and dreams for life impacted her at
an early age, and ultimately Rebecca developed her gifts and
scholarly success. She went on to become valedictorian of her
high school and captain of the basketball team.
Rebecca McFadden earned a full academic scholarship and attended
Shaw University. While there; she continued to reach her
potential as a scholar, and this ultimately led to her earning a
business degree. Rebecca moved to New York upon graduating from
college, and she worked for New York City Transit as an
Associate Staff Analyst. That's not all, in addition to being an
exemplary employee, she managed her son's child-modeling career
and wrote two books, "Strong Enough For A Man " and "Surfing To
Find The One. "
Rebecca McFadden's passion for writing resulted in her giving
birth to New York City Transit's company approved Poet-Tree Club,
she co-founded it, named it, and became president of the one
hundred member strong spoken word artist club. Rebecca is the
proud mother of one son and she resides in Kings County, New
York.
