Roughly 50% of our children with autism are likely to wander or
elope so many families live with the fear of wandering or
elopement every day.  When you have a child who is at risk
for elopement, it directly impacts your entire family.

You are often limited in the activities you are able to
participate in outside of the home due to the fear of wandering.
You have to take extreme measures to provide safety in your home
from the inside out and be prepared for the judgment that will
likely follow from family or friends. Home security is a must.
You will likely have alarms or secure deadbolt locks to prevent
the opportunity to elope. You will need to be extremely cautious
of who you leave your child in the care of and ensure that they
are aware of all the risks and extra precautions they will need
to take to ensure your child does not run.

If your child is a wanderer, it is critically important that you
are prepared for an elopement so that you can act quickly and
reduce their chance of harm.
