When we imagine Scotland, we might think of castles, rugged hills,
or reformers like John Knox. But in Scotland’s housing
schemes—inner-city neighborhoods burdened by poverty and crime—the
reality is very different. These schemes are in desperate need of
local, Bible-preaching churches. Through Church in Hard Places,
Acts 29 works closely with 20schemes, a ministry seeking to plant
healthy, multiplying churches of gospel light in the darkest
corners of Scotland. Mez McConnell joins the podcast today to
discuss church planting in Scotland through 20schemes and Acts 29.
Mez is one of the pastors of Niddrie Community Church in Edinburgh
and the founder of 20schemes. He’s written several books, worked in
inner-city areas in England, Scotland, and Brazil, and has a
particular passion for training men and women for ministry in this
context.
