For Episode 12, YDKH is talking the IOC (International Olympic
Committee) and the Olympic Games! I'm joined by Dr. Johanna
Mellis (@JohannaMellis) of Ursinus University and a specialist in
the interactions between Hungarian athletes, socialist sports
leaders, and the IOC as a microcosm of relations between society,
the socialist state, and international organizations during the
Cold War; and in between teaching history and conducting her own
research, she is also the co-host of the "End of Sport" podcast!
We talk about the the Olympic Games and why they have such a hold
on the world, what it was like for a Hungarian athlete during the
Cold War period, the hypocrisy of the IOC, and cementing a new
pod rule: while the IOC sucks, Olympic athletes rock!
