To celebrate the holiday season, we decided to bring back a few
familiar guests to discuss foundations they have either founded or
help run. We hope the holiday spirit moves our Spotlight listeners
into a giving mood to support these great causes! Note: All of
these foundations can be found under the "Support Our Friends" tab
at www.themorningspotlight.com! Start Day One Foundation -
Ricardo Zulueta, Jr. (Founder) The founders of Start Day One,
Ricardo & Kristen Zulueta, have been supporting
suicide prevention awareness with their apparel brand, which
has the mission to inspire and motivate people to live life without
regret and accept challenges worth the risk. Ricardo has personally
experienced the loss of his oldest brother from suicide, which is
why they are genuinely passionate about their mission. According to
their philosophy, true prevention is not waiting for someone
to reach out or show symptoms of suicidal tendencies. It is more
effective to proactively help people stop complaining and taking
life for granted in the first place. People don't need help because
they are depressed or suicidal. They need help that's WHY they're
depressed or suicidal. Depression is not the cause, it is merely
the result. https://startdayone.org/ founder@fukittclothing.com
Keep on Pushing Foundation - Devon Harris, OLY (Founder) The Keep
On Pushing Foundation is a federally recognized 501(c) 3 non-profit
organization founded in 2006 by former Jamaican bobsled team
captain, Devon Harris. The foundation was started as a result of
Devon’s commitment to do whatever it takes to nourish the bodies
and minds of the children in his old neighborhood-the Olympic
Gardens area of Kingston, and elsewhere around the world, as Devon
firmly believes they have the same potential for success as he
did. The majority of the children in Olympic Gardens qualify
for assistance from the Keep on Pushing Foundation. Our client-base
is primarily underemployed or unemployed residents who live in a
community which is prone to politically motivated and gang related
outbreaks of violence. Generally speaking, students are performing
well below the required standard. Some display traits of short
attention span, listlessness, aggression, fatigue, irregular
attendance and unpunctuality. It was discovered that their
under-achievement and poor behavior was as a result of the lack of
a proper meal to start the day. Hope is the life-blood of
possibilities. In nourishing the minds and bodies of these “at
risk” youths, the Keep on Pushing Foundation is assisting them in
getting a good education and therefore giving them hope and the
ability to explore and take advantage of opportunities that would
otherwise pass them by. https://keeponpushing.org/
devon@keeponpushing.org Project Kind - Monica Dema (Advisory Board
Member) From its inception, Jenny DePaul—founder and CEO of Project
Kind—set out to help those that are less fortunate. Bringing
peanutbutter jelly sandwiches to Newark, NJ, was just the start.
Creating Kindness Notes and packing that into each sandwich bag let
her new friends know that they are worthy of love and reminded them
of it long after the sandwich was eaten. With the help of sponsors
and affiliates around the world, Project Kind reaches more people
in need than ever—and will not stop.
