Laurence Browne was born in the UK in 1951 to parents living in the
Far East and spent much of his childhood there, though at the age
of nine was sent to boarding school in England. After completing
secondary school in 1969 (Radley College, Oxford), he came to
Australia working mainly as a teacher of English as a second
language. He is married with two daughters and lives in suburban
Brisbane
He has been interested ever since his early twenties in the
possibility of an inner truth and has been a regular meditator
since the 1970s. In 2009 he gave up teaching to pursue a PhD in
Philosophy at the University of Queensland, gaining his doctorate
in 2014. The title of his thesis was Examining Coincidences:
towards an integrated approach. In 2017 this was turned into a book
released by Imprint Academic, Exeter, U.K. under the title The Many
Faces of Coincidence.
Over the last couple of years he has been particularly interested
in the topic of coincidences in literature and has written two
journal articles on the subject. The first of these, ‘Coincidence
in Fiction and Literature’, was published in 2019 in the Australian
Journal of Parapsychology.
