However, in the early 2000s, it was responsible for one of the
largest architectural failures in terms of cost, environmental
impact, and failure to come to fruition. The artificial islands
were meant to awe and inspire visitors. Instead, they crumbled,
changed the nature of currents, and to this day are nothing more
