India has been known for adopting  a “neighbourhood first”
and a “Look east” policy- wherein we have hoped and aimed towards
inculcating better ties with our neighbours and the South East
Asian states. The NDA government that came to power in 2014 also
carried forward this legacy and shared the same ideology.  


However, the last few months have heralded a new, but alarming
chapter in our peaceful approach. Relations with countries like
Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Indonesia- which were extremely
tranquil- have now begun to sour.   Meanwhile, the
progress that we seemed to have made with our adversaries, China
and Pakistan, have also diminished. 


In this episode of the Deshbhakt, we try to understand what
issues led to the weakening of ties between India and its
neighbours and what role did China have to play in all this
disorder.....also - what were we doing when China was making its
moves.
