Very Bold Radio 10-23-21 with Darren Mulligan

One of the most authentic, real, vulnerable and open interviews I
can recall: Darren Mulligan of the amazing band We Are Messengers
(Magnify, Come What May, Maybe It’s Ok, Everything Comes Alive,
Power, Love) opens up about reevaluating everything the last two
years. About feeling “born again, again” and a whole lot
more!

8:30-10:40 Discussion with his wife about this (Wholehearted just
released) possibly being his last album. Darren talks his deep
love of his Ireland but the clear call to America. “13 years ago
we said, ‘God we’ll go wherever you want us to go and do whatever
you want us to do. And so the Lord has cashed in on that check
that we wrote with our mouths and our hearts.”


“I’m an Irishman. I’m from the dirt. I’m from the ground. I’m a
blue-collar working class guy. To be a musician is still an alien
thing to me.”


10:40-12:00 on holding things too tightly… “I’ve got nothing to
pretend anymore. I’m too old…”


12:00-13:00 Not wanting to be cool or trendy with new album.
Because “…that’s where the magic is, in being fully yourself
inside the fullness of God.” 


13:00-15:00 on men being both tender, kind, and also furious and
strong. 


The western Church’s problem “form of godliness but lacking power
of God” — Darren admits, “Too much of my life I had a form of
godliness, the appearance of godliness but really my life was an
empty tomb.”


“We should be dangerous to the kingdom of Hell.”


15:00-17:00 on men having charisma but not doing a “darn thing to
change the world.” 


“I am determined. Determined to have character that is greater
than my calling. It’s been the wrong way around for too long.”


17:00-18:30 On the devil seeking to kill him, destroy him- but
the kindness and power of God that has constrained him (the
devil). 


So “I get another chance (today) to say ‘yes’ to the only one who
has ever really understood me and that’s the King.” 


 


Host Steve Teel’s final thoughts - there is MUCH to this
