By her sophomore year in high school, Diana Chao had already
decided that she needed to take a gap year after graduating in
order to focus on her mental health. After getting into Princeton
University, she deferred for a year and took time off to work at
NASA & Adobe while building her non-profit, Letters to
Strangers and managing her family business. After overworking
herself for several 100-hour weeks, Diana realized that her
chaotic schedule was only worsening her mental and physical
health and decided to travel to Rome in order to take some time
off and slow down. Through her experiences traveling, she was
able to gain a new perspective on life and return to the US with
a more mindful approach to life.
