The SIBO Microbiome with Dr Mark Pimentel

With me today is Dr. Mark Pimentel who really needs no
introduction to the SIBO community. He's the executive director
of the MAST program or Medically Associated Science and
Technology. He's professor of medicine at Geffen School of
Medicine at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. A few of Dr.
Pimentel's most significant accomplishments include the discovery
of rifaximin as a treatment for IBS. He also developed the first
blood test for IBS based on IBS being derived from acute
gastroenteritis; the antibody testing. He described the
association between IBS and bacterial overgrowth, which forms the
basis of microbiome therapies in this condition, as well as
uncovering that methanogens are causing constipations in humans.
