The old joke goes something like this- A man and a woman sit down
with a therapist complaining about their sex life. “He wants it all
the time, we never stop having sex/ she’s never in the mood, we
practically never make love” they explain. “How often do you
actually have sex?” the therapist asks. “Once or twice a week” they
agree in unison. As old jokes go it’s a B minus but the truth is it
captures the narrative of our culture while being exhaustingly,
mind numbingly out of touch with the real life needs and stories of
couples struggling with healthy and normal desire discrepancies.
