Now that it is the first of the year, there is a stampede of
millions of Christians who want to get an advance on what is
coming. Today Mena Lee Grebin joins me to discuss what the year
looks like, what to really expect, and what to do.
I think of the words of Amos:11-12, "Behold, the days come, saith
the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine
of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the
Lord: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north
even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of
the Lord, and shall not find it."
This is without a doubt what is now happening. There is an online
mad rush to get a word about what is coming for this year. The
more they seek for the words of men and women rather than the
word of God, the more they begin to wander. They strike out for
greater searchings, by going from "sea to sea." When they
find nothing, they try going "from north even to the east" and
they will "run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord." But God
says, "they will not not find it.
They will only find that they were looking in the wrong direction
the whole time. That doing so will have done nothing but put a
greater distance between them and God. They will never find it
because that is not how to seek the Lord. It never has been.
God never said He sent a famine of the word, but the
hearing of the word. Didn't Jesus say, "He that hath an ear let
him hear?"
But the ears of this generation have their ears tuned to the
endless voices of false prophets, and false teachers. The Lord
never has sent a famine of prayer. Yet the very prayers of this
generation are largely heartless, empty and shallow. Those that
do pray find they are not getting answers and go away too soon,
while others in large numbers only want others to always pray for
them. They feel they are inadequate.
This is a heart matter. The seat of prayer is the heart in every
individual, and that means everything to God. As Mena said, this
year is no doubt going to be much worse than last. There are
challenges, trials and hardships right up the road. In a larger
way, this is a great spiritual battle as the enemy knowing his
time is short is hitting harder than ever before.
Mena puts in strong, mature, but deeply lovingly words that this
is the time that every believer MUST pray, and not to do so with
half a heart. Those words of the hymn, "Come just as you are,"
should now be rather phrased, "Come with all that you are." Your
life, the life of your loved ones will depend on it.
God will not let you down. Do not try to control how He will
answer you. God already knows what to do. Prayer is power,
and it connects you to Him. You have direct access with
boldness by faith in Him, and you can trust Him to do for you
what you can never accomplish yourselves. "In the fear of the
Lord is strong confidence and his children will have a place of
refuge."
"Prayer is a creature’s strength, his very breathe and being."
