There is a very real knowing in the hearts of true believers that
Jesus Christ is soon to come in the rapture. Along with that is
the long waiting for Him. There is now great exhaustion and a
barely hanging on. What is on the horizon is not for the faint of
heart. I honestly wonder how people do it without the Lord.
I was thinking about the verse in Revelation 3:11 that
says, "Behold I come quickly, hold fast what thou hast, let no
man take thy crown."

That seemed more powerful to me than ever. Because we are
now seeing things being taken away from the earth. The faithful
believer typically has had a hard life.  They know how to
hold up in the hardest of trials and losses. They know how to
live in the "Godliness with contentment which is great gain."
Without really knowing it, they have been practicing all their
lives. When Jesus tells us to hold fast what we have. What we
hold fast to is the faith given to us, we hold fast to His
enduring mercies, we hold fast to His grace, we hold fast to His
love and grace. We hold fast to the end.

In essence we hold on to Jesus Christ who is our life and crown.
The exhortation is - hold fast by what God has given in His
gospel; hold fast His Son, His truth and His grace. Keep firm
hold of the great truths and principles of the gospel.  We
have a Christ that is worth keeping, see to it that you keep Him,
and do not let Him slip away out of your fingers. The end of the
race is the hardest part, the one that results in the consequence
and reward of hard toil, faithfully done, and of effort that
strains every muscle in the race. The faithful participation in
life and glory for evermore, which in essence is your crown.

"Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one
receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every
man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now
they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an
incorruptible." 1 Corinthians 9:24-25.
