There is so much more to forgiveness than jus the act of asking
for it. True forgiveness really is a sacrifice. Let me share a
story with you that will best explain it. Many years ago I was
deeply wounded by some people that I loved. I know that I had
disappointed them too.

When I left the relationship I carried about in my heart a real
heaviness. I felt that I could not be healed unless they asked
for my forgiveness and that I can offer mine. I had reached out
to meet one of them, and during that time, in a heartbroken way
asked for their forgiveness I know I owed them. But the other
person only said "thank you." I left that table and went on with
my life. I left with a greater wound and it impacted my life for
a very long time. I needed restoration, comfort and love. Even
though there were times I had brief encounters with that person,
there was never a mention of apology.

I was carried about with "overmuch sorrow." I felt plagued with
deep entrenched feelings that God had to work in me to heal. Time
has long progressed since then, and He has healed me and removed
the sting. I did not come away empty handed after all. In fact I
learned something about forgiveness, and today the Lord brought
it all to my mind.

There is much more to asking for and giving forgiveness. The one
giving the forgiveness is the one who has the power and key to
restoration, comfort and love esteemed. But there are some who
are innocent yet ask for forgiveness of them that hurt them in
order to try and open the door of healing. Yet it is met with a
cold one sided taking, and not asking for forgiveness still. The
hurt one goes on hurting when the one who hurt them will not
restore them. There is hardness within them and they keep the
hurt one in pain. This is part of forgiveness least practiced,
therefore the greater part of the body of Christ is living in
woundedness and still bleeding in pain.

Reach out to someone you know the Lord is prompting you to say
your are sorry to and ask them for forgiveness where you have
hurt them. Comfort and restore them. This means more to Jesus
Christ than ten thousand hours of religious works.

"I can forgive, but I cannot forget, is only another way of
saying, I will not forgive. Forgiveness ought to be like a
cancelled note - torn in two, and burned up, so that it never can
be shown against one." ~Henry Ward Beecher
