During a time in my life many years ago I was in a long term
devastation. I felt forsaken and abandoned. I had come across a
verse in Psalm 27:10 that read, "When my father and my mother
forsake me, then the Lord took me up." In that very moment when I
read those words they went straight into my heart and life sprang
into it. I knew that God had spoken to me by that living word. I
knew He was letting me know that He was with me all along, and
that He had taken me up long ago.
Many years later after God had healed my life and "brought up my
life from the sides of the pit," I was making the bed and
remembering that verse. With the remembering of that verse, I was
going through my mind the memories of all the rejection,
abandonment and the being forsaken going back to childhood.
I was thanking Him in a way that was like thanking someone who
had given help only for a time frame when I needed it the most.
My thanking Him was saying thank you to a Person who had "gotten
me to the other side" so to speak. Like the angel who appeared to
Peter in prison. When he told him to get up, and the angel opened
the prison door, and they both went out into the street and the
angel departed from him.
As I thought those words in my heart I heard the Lord speak to me
saying, "When I take up a persons life that has been forsaken, I
take them up for the rest of their lives." Still looking back I
understand more today than those years now past. He not only
takes up a person's life at some point. But He takes up all that
concerns them in detail from then on. Their whole life is now
taken up by our God and He continues to beautify and heal it.
Furthermore, I see that it is not just about a father and mother
forsaking their children.
There are many people out there where they have been forsaken by
their spouse, their children, a most trusted friend. There are
many circumstances of being forsaken. However, it is then that
Jesus Christ will take up that person and all that pertains to
their entire life till their blessed end. This life is
transitory. One day this life will end for each of us. Christ has
taken up His cross and died for us. Therefore we forsake this
world in exchange for the other one. "For He sayeth I will never
leave thee nor forsake thee not even until the end of the world."
“God will never disappoint us… If deep in our hearts we suspect
that God does not love us and cannot manage our affairs as well
as we can, we certainly will not submit to His discipline. …To
the unbeliever the fact of suffering only convinces him that God
is not to be trusted, does not love us. To the believer, the
opposite is true.” ― Elisabeth Elliot, Discipline: The Glad
