There are many endless feature characteristics of God that are
beautiful and will take all eternity to search out. One of them
is an action that He does and has done. He began by saying of
Himself that it was He that "created the heavens and stretched
them out." When we look at His sky stretched out over everything
we are in awe of His endless wonders and glory. We see the seas
and land stretched out and we are in amazement of His power and
beauty and we are overwhelmed.
Even when "God is angry with the wicked everyday," "His hand is
stretched out still." His mercy and love are ever stretching
towards us from heaven. When we are overburdened and sorrowful,
we pour out our souls to Him, and "stretch forth our hands to
heaven." When there are times we are "walking in the midst of
trouble," we stretch forth ourselves to Him in prayer, and He
"stretches forth His hand against the wrath of our enemies."
There is no end of stretching Himself to us every day and night
faithfully. He stretches forth His loving kindness, strength and
grace. All that Jesus is is stretched forth to us in rushing
streams of comfort. There is no end to what God is stretching
forth for His children today, tomorrow, until the very end of
each of their lives. Wherever you are, whatever you are suffering
from, stretch forth your hands to God and He will stretch forth
Himself to you and answer you. You will rejoice in the Stretching
God Jesus Christ and our Father in heaven.
“The word comfort is from two Latin words meaning “with” and
“strong” – He is with us to make us strong. Comfort is not soft,
weakening commiseration; it is true, strengthening love.” ― Amy
Carmichael, Kohila : the shaping of an Indian nurse
