There are many marriages where spiritual contention is the norm.
Where one is a believer and the other one is not. There is a lot
of pain on the side of the believer who tries through the years
to lead their spouses to Christ.

Yet, over and over again fortress walls and drawbridges go up.
Anger sets in, loneliness and despair. The unbeliever seems to
get stronger while the faithful believer weeps in prayer. It is a
long, lonely path with heaviness of heart.

However, there comes a time when it is time to be quiet. Not the
silent treatment, but a turning to the Lord and acquiescing to
Christ in laying it down.

No more chasing. Just a "going-on" on with Christ in keeping a
quiet spirit, a quiet heart. It is not a earthly kind of outward,
temporary quietness. If it were it would not work, because Jesus
wants you to have a spiritually quiet heart in your "hidden man."

You will experience that it is another kind of quiet because it
comes in with power and great grace begins to abound.

“Humility is perfect quietness of heart. It is to expect nothing,
to wonder at nothing that is done to me, to feel nothing done
against me. It is to be at rest when nobody praises me, and when
I am blamed or despised. It is to have a blessed home in the
Lord, where I can go in and shut the door, and kneel to my Father
in secret, and am at peace as in a deep sea of calmness, when all
around and above is trouble.” ― Andrew Murray
