One day Jesus was sitting over against the Treasury. He "beheld
how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were
rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she
threw in two mites." (Mark 12:41-43).

What really spoke to me was how Mark the writer of this account
said the people, and the rich "cast" in money. But the poor widow
"threw" in her two mites. Though I know that this is about money,
I saw something else. That word "threw" caused me to see past
money.

The word "threw" in Greek is ballo which means: in various
applications, (more or less violent or intense) with force and
effort: to throw or let go of a thing without caring where it
falls. To give over to one's care uncertain about the result. And
to pour, pour into of rivers.

This poor widow gave a voluntary offering into the money not for
the poor but for sacrifice. She poured it into the rivers of
God's love.

It was not the money Jesus saw but her full surrender in worship.
Her rivers of sacrifice are still eternally flowing. Is there
anything you have not thrown into the rivers of loving sacrifice?

Let us not forget that Jesus still sees the treasury.

“To love abundantly is to live abundantly, and to love forever is
to live forever.” ― Henry Drummond
