In this snippet, Richard Allen Davis starts to talk about the
kidnapping and murder of Polly Klaas. Coming to all podcast
platforms February 2025.
The kidnapping of Polly Klaas occurred on October 1, 1993, in
Petaluma, California. Polly, a 12-year-old girl, was abducted from
her home during a sleepover at her house. The kidnapper, Richard
Allen Davis, a convicted felon, broke into the home, tied up
Polly's friends, and took her at knifepoint. After several days of
extensive searching by law enforcement, volunteers, and the
community, Polly's body was found on October 4, 1993, in a wooded
area near her home.
Davis was arrested and later confessed to the crime. He had a
history of violent offenses and was on parole at the time of the
abduction. The case drew national attention and led to increased
efforts for child safety, including the passage of "Polly's Law,"
which focused on increasing the penalties for crimes involving the
kidnapping of minors. Davis was convicted of murder, kidnapping,
and sexual assault, and was sentenced to death. He remains on death
row in California. The tragedy profoundly impacted the nation and
highlighted issues around child abduction and criminal justice
reform.
