#12 - The Founders Who Invented Live Streaming And MobiTV

In Episode 12 on The Millionaire Student Show, Sashin Govender
dissects the Pain (Past), Price (Journey) and Prize (Result) of
Jeff Annison and Paul Scanlan. Forbes included them in a "Names
You Need to Know" list in 2011, largely for creating the mobile
video space with MobiTV and launching the first mobile television
network with Sprint in 2003.


 


ABOUT PAUL ANNISON AND PAUL SCANLAN  :


Jeff Annison is an American businessperson who was a cofounder
and CEO of Underground Labs, a product development studio that
built mobile apps, websites, and enterprise products for clients
including AT&T, Sprint, NFL, SEC, ACC, Universal Music,
Warner Music, Sony Music, Diet Coke, Paramount Pictures, and
more. Underground Labs also created the New York Rock Exchange, a
first-of-its-kind marketplace that allowed fans to own a piece of
a song. On the other hand Jeff’s business partner, Paul Scanlan
began his career in sales at telecommunications firm and later
co-founded a boutique ad agency. He plays an active board role in
a select group of innovative tech and media companies. He was
also a founding board member of New York Rock Exchange, global
board member for Haufe, and as a founding board member for
GetClose. Paul’s entrepreneurial vision is balanced with an
effective make-it-happen approach. In 1999 both Jeff and Paul
formulated MobiTV. Six years after that their team were awarded
an Engineering Emmy for bringing live broadcasts to cellphones.
They also helped raise more than $100 million in investment for
the company. In 2016 they both then went on to formulate Legion
M, which purported to be the industry's first fan-owned media
company. In which they let fans invest in and be part of the
creation of the company's media content. It drives revenue
through partnerships with creators, independent filmmakers, and
established Hollywood studios. In 2018 the company had raised $3
million in funding from more than 7,000 fan owners.
