FORT BENNING: Specialist Richard Davis

In 2003, Specialist Richard Davis and his unit returned from an
Iraq deployment. Richard and 4 of his military buddies (Mario
Navarette, Alberto Martinez, Jacob Burgoyne, and Douglas Woodcoff)
decided to paint the town red while they were on their 2-day R
& R (rest & relaxation). The next morning, when
everyone reported to work, Richard didn’t show up. His
leadership thought he’d gone on a bender, maybe he was with a girl,
but after 48-hours, they contacted Richard’s father to inform him
that his son was absent without leave (AWOL). Lanny Davis,
Richard’s father, and a veteran himself knew something was
off. And he began his search for his son. Four-months

titled, “In the Valley of Elah” featured the case covered in this
episode. The lead actors were Tommy Lee Jones, Charlize
Theron, and Susan Sarandon. But the movie was “based on this
case” and the reality of what happened is a bit
