In the 80s, it appeared that wherever John Joubert went, young boys
always turned up dead. Whether it was his hometown in Maine or
his duty location near Offutt AFB. John always seemed to be in
the wrong place at the wrong time. But he was a devout Boy
Scout – earning his Eagle Scout badge and even becoming an
assistant scout leader. He was lauded by many as a model young
