Should governments be more like nanny states and make all decisions for us?

In this show, the boys discuss whether we the population are so
busy getting on with our day-to-day lives, then shouldn't we let
the government make more and more decisions on our behalf?

Don't governments know what's really best for us? 

Like a nanny state, where they take care of almost
"everything"? 
So we the people can get on with what is important for us and not
have to deal with the more complex issues of government?

Or should the governments have LESS involvement in our lives, so
leaving the decision-making in our hands rather than theirs? And
should we have more of a say in decision-making that is made in
government for the bigger issues being faced? 

So we choose perhaps monthly with referendum whether we agree or
disagree with certain decisions that the government make.

Or do the majority of people, simply don't care either way?
