We are very happy to have Gary Taubes on the show with us today.
Gary is an investigative science and health journalist, author of
several books, co-founder of the non-profit Nutrition Science
Initiative, and a legend in the low-carb world. He has won
multiple awards for his journalism over the course of his career.
He graduated from Harvard College with an S.B. degree in applied
physics, and received an M.S. degree in engineering from Stanford
University and in journalism from Columbia University.

In our discussion with Gary, we talk about the cognitive
dissonance between those who follow conventional wisdom and
people who adhere to and advocate for diets like low-carb or
other “fad” diets, the history of the development of the standard
American dietary philosophy, we discuss different theories on the
cause of obesity, studies in obesity research, the possible
harms/advantages of artificial sweeteners, whether or not there
are any good long-term studies on the ketogenic diet and other
diets, regenerative agriculture, and to what degree anecdotal
evidence is valuable in medical research.
