History often presents a perspective of the African as the
passive recipient of the agendas of those who seek to either
oppress or liberate. However, the fight for freedom and the
ability to reclaim or re-create ones homeland has been at the
heart of the African experience ever since they were carried
'beyond their boarders' or had their land and civil liberties
taken away. The Africans of Nova Scotia is an example of how this
diaspora persevered through uprisings and rebellions throughout
the Caribbean, Americas and the Middle East to triumph within a
new found freedom that also came with its own restrictions.
limitations and adverse circumstances.
