Sisters Leah and Chloe Smith from Rising Appalachia on their roots and the Slow Music Movement

Rising Appalachia is a band founded by two sisters, Leah
and Chloe Smith. With links to social and
environmental activism, the folk duo from Atlanta, Georgia, look
for harmony in the music they create and the places they
go.


The sisters dropped by our studio in the middle of a series of
European shows celebrating their new album “Leylines.” We talked
about their roots and the philosophy behind the Slow Music
Movement. Plus, they performed a traditional Appalachian love
song live in studio, “Across the Blue Ridge Mountains.”
